I have come to a standstill with Joseph Carter [1705] and his wife Hannah
Mason [1705] who lived at Low Mill House Cleator - no birth place or
parents.
In desperation I went on another route- a Carter family that took
residence at Crosfield Cleator which is literally across the ford for Low
Mill and whether there is a link between Joseph Carter and the Carter's of
Crosfield..
John Carter the father and his eldest son Willam both left wills [pre 1700]
and in William's will there is a clause that a certain portion of land be
set aside for a burial ground- and on Cascat numerous buying and selling of
land.So there definitely was a meeting house at Crosfield and the buildings
mentioned were definitely associated with farming but nothing to do with
milling and no access to water.
Worse still this family seems to fizzle out!!!!!! The meeting house was
closed and Pardshaw was used as the burial site or Cleator church. Joseph
Carter and his wife Hannah are buried at Cleator as were their daughter
Hannah Carter Routledge and her husband Andrew Routledge who were
definitely Quakers.
This is also Anne Sharples family so any help would be much appreciated by
both of us. TIA Bev
