Dear Sir

I have always assumed that it was these same "White Boys" as inspired(?) the following lines in the song "Green Grow The Rushes-O"; -
/Two, two the lily-white boys/ dressed up all in Green, HO-HO/
I have also been informed that it was the popularity of "Green Grow The Rushes-O" with the British forces fighting in Wellington's Peninsular Campaigns that is the origin of the Spanish term "Gringo".
Finally, "The White Boys" was the collective name given to three couple of the old Irish breed of fox-hound that were bought by Mr 'Flurrie' Knox MFH in one of the "Irish RM" short stories by Somerville & Ross.
