Whitehaven  - November 24 - 1774.



We hear from Carlisle, that a few days ago Sir James Lowther, Bart. accompanied with a number of gentlemen, made his public entry into that city; and met with a most cordial reception from all ranks of people. Sir James gave the gentlemen a very elegant entertainment and several oxen and sheep were roasted at the Castle.



A few days ago was married at Adinham in this county, by the Rev. Mr. Todhunter, Mr. John Dixon of Kirkoswald, an eminent miln-wright there to Miss Sally Dodd of Glasonby, a very agreeable young lady, with a genteel fortune.



The rest of that days column was devoted to events taking place in the continent of America provided by the latest copies of the Boston Gazette, Philadelphia Journal, Massachusetts’s Gazette and the Virginia Gazette.
