The Carlisle Harriers cast off on Tuesday at Wrea, at eight o'clock in the morning.
We understand that the Rt. Hon. T. WALLACE, M. P., Master of the Mint, has presented the Rev. Mr. BEWSHER, late curate of Penrith,
to a living at Knaresdale, in Northumberland, said to be of considerable value.
Unfortunates that we are! we have drawn down upon our heads and upon the yellow cause (in consequence of the exquisite specimen of
orthography which appeared in our last) such castigation as none but the high-mettled author of it could inflict.-With all humility
we insert the following:-
"Whearas on Saturday Last Being the 21 of Febuarey 1824, a Letter of my Hand Wrighting Stated Madam I Humbley Beg the faviour of you

A word in earnest. We really had no intention of depriving 'honest, honest' Anthony of the least of the donations which he may
obtain from the charitable. We would much much rather at any time give him a shilling than deprive him of one, for we think him and
his wife deserving objects; nor should we have now mentioned his name had he not forced it upon us.-We advise him, however, not to
permit his happy talent for epistolary writing to betray him into a too exalted opinion of himself, and conjure him to have a little
mercy on those who are so unhappy as to incur his political disapprobation and opposition!
>From the Kendal Gazette.-We have great pleasure in noticing the very flattering mannner [sic] in which the productions of that
distinguished artist, Mr. SEVILLE, have been received by the more elevated classes of society in this town, who have daily thronged
to his astonishing abilities in cutting Profiles, &c. in the execution of which he combines uncommon ingenuity with the most
surprising accuracy.-See Advert.
Margaret WARD (a girl of the town) was on Saturday last committed to Carlisle gaol, for trial at the ensuing assizes, charged with
robbing James STOUP of a guinea, in the market-place, Whitehaven. The jail at this time contains five women of the above
description, who lately infested the streets of that town.
The rebuilding of Borrowdale chapel is decided upon. The old structure will be pulled down immediately, and a handsome and more
commodious edifice (to be completed against the first of August next) is to be erected upon the site.-We should rejoice exceedingly
to hear of a similar fate awaiting several of the other hovels amongst the mountains in this county, in which Divine Service is
still performed.
A fine four years old steer of the short-horned breed was lately killed at Schoose (Mr. CURWEN's farm), the carcase of which weighed
110st. 5lb. (of 14lbs.), and 15st. 12lb. of tallow, long weight. It was reared on the soiling system, and never had any other than
green food and straw.
Prisoners to take their trial at the Westmorland Spring Assizes:-
George RAWSTHORNE, aged 35; Thomas RICHARDSON, aged 19; John DENT, aged 18; and James WILKINSON, charged with burglary. Charlotte
CHRILLOW, aged 42, for receiving stolen goods. Dorcas ALLINSON, aged 27, for uttering counterfeit money.
The body of a man named ARMER was found in the river Kent, near Levens, last week;-a watch and some other trifling property were in
the pockets of his clothes; a string was tied securely round his right leg, and fastened with a noose round the left arm, but it had
been broken by the rolling of the body in the water;-there was a cut behind the left ear to the bone; the face was much battered;
and several scars appeared on various parts of the body. Notwithstanding all this, no surgeon was called on the inquest to examine
the wounds. Verdict of the jury, "found drowned." It is probable that the man committed suicide, and that the injury to his person
might have been occasioned by the rough bed of the river: yet it was not very prudent to inter the corpse without a proper
investigation.
