On Thursday last, at St. Mary's Church, by the Rev. Mr. WILKINSON, Mr. Wm. NICHOLSON, late Jeweller in this city, to Miss Elizabeth
SEWELL, daughter of the late Mr. John SEWELL, of Scotby. 

 

At St. Mary's church, in this City, on Monday, Mr. John GRANT, colour sergeant at the Castle, to Miss Mary SHAW. The bridegroom is
more than 50 years of age, it is said, and the bride about 15. An immense crowd assembled in the street, and the "happy couple"
proceeded to their domicile amidst very loud expressions of derision.-Same place, on Tuesday, Mr. John GRAHAM, to Miss Mary
AKIN.-Same place, on Saturday last, Mr. George HOGG, to Miss Ann GILES. 

 

On Saturday the 24th ult., at Scaleby, Mr. William IRWIN, to Miss Mary GIBSON. 

 

On Tuesday the 27th ult., at Arthuret, Mr. John WILSON, of Longtown, to Miss C. TAYLOR, of Parcelstown. 

 

At Wigton, on Wednesday last, Mr. CROSTHWAITE Skinner, Keswick, to Miss E. FURNASS, milliner, Wigton. 

 

On Tuesday last, at St. Peter's Church, Liverpool, by the Rev. Mr. JOHNSTON, Mr. James COCKBURN, to Ann, third daughter of Mr.
Jonathan STORY, of Carlisle. 

 

At Summerville, Wm. SYME, Esq. younger, of Ryedale, to Lilias, eldest daughter of the Rev. Chas. BABINGTON, minister of the
Episcopal Chapel, Dumfries. 

 

At Dumfries, on Monday, Mr. John THOMPSON, Maxwelltown, late merchant in Manchester, to Elizabeth, only daughter of Francis BEATTIE,
Esq. Dumfries. 

 

At Burnhead-manse, Mr. Chas. MAXWELL, jun. of Boatford, to Miss Jessie DOBBIE, niece to the Rev. Edward DOBBIE, of Burnhead. 

 

Jan. 29, at Hebburn Hall, Durham, by special license, Wm. Henry LAMBTON, Esq. (brother of J. G. LAMBTON, Esq. M. P.) to Henrietta,
the second daughter of Cuthbert ELLISON, Esq. M. P. for Newcastle. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. John HODGSON,
Vicar of Kirkwhelpington, at eight o'clock in the evening. A sumptuous entertainment preceded the ceremony. After receiving the
gratulations of assembled friends, the happy couple set off in a chariot and four to Murton House, the seat of the bridegroom's
uncle. It is understood, that after sojourning a short while there, they go to Naples. 

 

By special licence, at Desart House, Ireland, on Monday last, Rose Lambert PRICE, Esq. H. P. 78th Highlanders, to the Countess of
Desart. 

 

DIED, 

 

At Castle Howard, Yorkshire, the seat of her Noble Husband, in the 71st year of her age, to the great affliction of her numerous
family, and the irreparable loss of her dependents and the neighbouring poor, the Right Hon. Margaret Caroline, Countess of
Carlisle. Her Ladyship was the second daughter of Granville Leveson GOWER, first Marquis of Stafford (by Louisa, daughter of Scroop
Duke of Bridgewater), and sister of the present Marquis, and of Lady Ann VERNON (lady of the Archbishop of York). Her Ladyship was
married to Frederick Earl of Carlisle, on the 22d March, 1770, by whom she had issue eight children. 

 

Yesterday morning, in Caldewgate, after a few days illness, aged 41, endeared to a large circle of friends by his sobriety and
integrity in all his dealings, Mr. Thos. GUY, shopkeeper, leaving a disconsolate widow and seven helpless children to bewail their
irreparable loss. 

 

In this city, on Tuesday last, Mr. Robert BELL, aged 64, many years brewer to Messrs. PATTINSON & Co. 

 

Suddenly, at Parton, near Wigton, Mr. ISMAY, aged 76; much regretted by all who knew him. 

 

On the 2nd inst. at Rigg Cottage, near Gretna, Mr. W. CARRUTHERS, formerly a solicitor in Carlisle. 

 

Last week, at Whitehaven, Mr. G. BRAITHWAITE, brother of Mr. B. assistant-overseer, aged 64.-Mr. Thomas GIBSON, butcher, aged 38.
His coffin was iron bound, to protect his remains from the depredations of the body-snatchers. 

 

Lately, near Waterford, Joseph, the son of Mr. H. NICHOLSON, cabinet-maker, Whitehaven, aged 17 years. In mooring a boat belonging
to the Hope, of Workington, in which he had come from shore, he fell from the side of the ship and was drowned. 

 

Lately, at Dean, in his 74th year Mr. Jos. WALKER, one of the Society of Friends. 

 

At Kendal, John, 4th son of Wm. Dillworth CREWDSON, Esq. banker, aged 10 years. 

 

At Westgills, near Annan, on Sunday last, Mrs. DINWOODIE, wife of Mr. DINWOODIE. She was a few days before delivered of a child, who
is likewise dead.-Same place, on Sunday last, Mrs. DAVIS, who has for many years been employed in the capacity of sick-nurse in
families. On the Sunday preceding, she was attending at an operation which was performed on the body of a gentleman, who was
supposed to have met his death by violence, and having a slight cut or scratch about her arm, she caught an infection and the
mortification proceeded up her arm into her body, with a rapidity that baffled all medical aid. 

 

Jan. 25, in Upper Seymour-street, aged 74, Dame Judith LAURIE, widow of the late Gen. Sir Robt. LAURIE, of Maxweltwon [sic], in the
county of Dumfries, Baronet. 

 

In Douglas, Isle of Man, Major THOMAS, aged 74.-At Northop, Kk. German, John BENNET, Esq. 

 

On the 15th ult., at Monlough, county of Down, Ireland, Mr. William GIBSON, farmer, aged 104 years. His brother died, a few days
ago, aged 99 years; and a sister, not long since, at the age of 105. 

 

It is not a little remarkable, that in the small parish of Kirkhaugh, near Alston, Northumberland, whose population does not exceed
300, that the united ages of the four last deceased should amount to the very great number of 345 years, viz.-1823, Eliz. HENDERSON,
who died June 29, aged 73; Richard WALLIS, Aug. 21, 95; Ann ARCHER, Dec. 21, 78; 1824, Sarah HUMBLE, Jan. 21, 99, total 345.
