On Tuesday, Sept. 23, at his seat near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, that eminent physician, Dr. Matthew BAILLIE, in his 62d year.
He was brother of the celebrated Joanna BAILLIE, and nephew, by his mother, to the far-famed John and William HUNTER; and his works
on the morbid anatomy of the human body, and other medical subjects, rank him high as a professional and literary character. His
practice was like his reputation, universal: it had no bounds but the inability of his physical powers to do more. His liberality
was equal to his judgment. Often were lucrative engagements with the exalted and wealthy deferred in order to afford time for the
low and poor, and alleviating the sufferings of those who added not one fee to his humanely-acquired fortunes. He may justly be said
to have been at the head of his profession.
