BIRTHS.
On the 20th ult. the Lady of Richard LACY, Esq. Captain in the Royal Cumberland Militia, of Holmpton, in Yorkshire, of a Daughter.
On Thursday week, the Lady of Edward WAKEFIELD, Esq. banker, Kendal, of a Son and Heir.
On Saturday morning last, the Lady of William BROCKEDON, Esq., of Caroline-street, Bedford-square, London, of a still-born Son.
On the 4th inst. at Moss Side Cottage, Preston, Mrs. Wm. TAYLOR, of a Daughter.
At Edinburgh, on the 3d inst., the Lady of Wm. Thos. CARRUTHERS, Esq. of Dormont, of a son and heir.
MARRIED.
At St. Mary's Church, on Saturday last, Mr. James ASHTON, to Mrs. Rebecca HARDMAN, relict of the late Mr. James HARDMAN, formerly of
this City, bleacher, both of the Society of Methodists.
On the 10th inst. at St. Mary's, in this City, John SMALL, to Ann STOBEY-both itinerant dealers in thread, pins, &c., he having the
advantage of a wooden leg and a pension. Before the marriage, the lady applied to the Parish for her fortune: but an objection being
raised both as to the principle of her application and the amount required, she determined to forego the joys of matrimony, and
change neither her parish nor condition. After a little further negociation, however, she obtained so much of her fortune as would
pay the church-fees and purchase a pair of shoes, and the knot was tied: then followed another application for her fortune and a
second refusal; whereupon the loving bride declared that unless 'they came down with the dust,' she would not consummate! This
threat extorted another trifle, and Mr. SMALL enjoyed the great gratification of being able to call the politic Miss STOBEY all his
own: and the parish of St. Mary have got rid of a troublesome customer.
At Wigton, on Thursday the 11th inst., Mr. J. OSBORNE, Parkgate Hall, to Miss N. HAYTON, of Crosshill.
On Sunday last, at Sebergham, Mr. Wm. MAGNAY, of Hullerbank, in the parish of Hayton, to Miss Anne JEFFERSON, of Bulmanhill.
At Annan, on Saturday last, Mr. George FORSYTH, of Carlisle, to Miss Ann HOPE of Annan.

At Leith, on the 4th inst. the Rev. William RUTHERFORD, of Newton, Roxburghshire, to Jessie, daughter of the late Rev. William ELDER

On Saturday last, Mrs. Margaret GREENVILLE, of English Damside, mother of Capt. GREENVILLE, aged 74.
Mrs. Sarah BLACK, of Botcherby, aged 54.
At Cockermouth, in the 85th year of her age, Mrs. Mary SMITH, much respected.
At Underskiddaw, near Keswick, Mrs. JACKSON, wife of Mr. Thomas JACKSON, aged 79.
Last week, very suddenly, Mr. John CREIGHTON, of New Town, Whitehaven, aged 31.
At Workington, Mary GIBBERY, aged 74.
At the house of her relation, Mr. ATKINSON, in Egremont, Mrs. KNEALE, wife of Mr. Robert KNEALE, blockmaker, of Whitehaven, aged 60.
Awfully sudden, on the 3rd inst. at Everton, near Liverpool, most deservedly and sincerely regretted by a numerous circle of
friends, Mrs. Mary SIMPSON, aged 66, relict of Felix SIMSON, Esq. formerly of Whitehaven, and daughter of the late Thos. JAMES, Esq.
of Mostyn Hall, Penrith.
Last week, Mr. John AIREY, of Kendal, aged 31.-Mr. George JENNINGS, of Kirkland, aged 69.
At Annan, of an inflammation in his bowels, Mr. Walter DALGLEISH.
At Haltwhistle, Northumberland, on the 29th ult., aged 84, Mrs. NEVE, relict of the late Dr. NEVE, Lady Margaret's Professor of
Divinity in the University of Oxford.
At Mallerstang, Mrs. Ann DAWSON, aged 93.
At Cartmell, William ROPER, Esq. aged 67.
On Monday week, in London, aged 21, Mr. Wm. FISHER, joiner, eldest son of Mr. FISHER, jun. of Kendal.
