CITY SESSIONS.
The Michaelmas Quarter Sessions for the City and Liberties of Carlisle were held at the Town-Hall, on Monday last, before Thomas
BLAMIRE, Esq. Mayor, the Rev. Dr. LOWRY and W. HODGSON, Esq. Aldermen.-Mr. ATKINSON was foreman of the grand jury.
James MARTIN, aged 10 years, and Robert BURNS aged 15, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, on the 30th September, a brass cock,
the property of Mr. HESLOP of this city. The fathers of both boys appearing and telling a piteous tale, at the same time undertaking
to pay more attention to their children in future (they have not long resided in Carlisle,) the Court humanely ordered them to be
imprisoned for one week only in the house of correction, but cautioned them most strongly how they came there again under similar
circumstances, for if they did, transportation would certainly be their lot. The boys and their parents thanked his worship and
retired with warm promises of amendment.
There was no other business. The Grand Jury threw out a couple of cross-bills for an assault, in which all the parties were equally
to blame.
