WILSON, the celebrated pedestrian, has engaged to walk 150 miles, in 48 hours, near Whitehaven. On Wednesday evening, at five
minutes past six, he commenced his undertaking; at eight o'clock on Thursday evening, he had gone 75 miles; yesterday morning, at
17½ minutes past six, he completed 102 miles. The ground he has chosen is upon Harris-Moor.
Rosley-Hill third Fair, on Monday last, was well attended by country people; but there were fewer dealers present than at the
second. Cattle, however, went briskly off at prices quite equal to those lately obtained; and good horses were in very great demand:
ordinary animals, as usual, plentiful and low. On the whole, the day was a favourable one for the seller.
Letter from Keswick'The weather in this part of the country still continues cold and unfavourable for the season. On Sunday night
last, we were visited with a tremendous storm of hail, followed by a heavy fall of cold rain: on the same evening, previous to the
shower, a piece of ice was found on the Borrowdale road an inch square.'
At a meeting of the Trustees of Whitehaven Harbour, held on Monday, it was decided that the plan by Messrs. WHIDBY and RENNIE, for
the extension and improvement of that harbour, by extending the western pier, should to be adopted; and arrangements were to be

Early on the morning of the 10th inst. four sailors, having been drinking at Annan until they were intoxicated, had a violent
quarrel on their way to the quay where their vessels lay, and finally, Geo. SCOTT, of the Christiana, of Carlisle, stabbed Arthur
Richards JOHNSTONE, (of the Eden of Carlisle) in the abdomen, with a knife, and the unfortunate man died of the wound on the ensuing
Wednesday evening. JOHNSTON was about 21 years of age, had been only nine months married, and has left a pregnant widow to lament
his untimely end. George SCOTT is well spoken of by his employer. After the fatal wound was inflicted, he went for a surgeon,
supported JOHNSTON in bed till the wound was dressed, and lay down by his side to bring him a natural heat, showing every solicitude
for him, and contrition for his crime. The body was opened by order of the Sheriff, by Dr. THOM of Annan, and Dr. SIMPSON of
Ecclefechan. The wound was inflicted by a large clasp-knife in the left side of the abdomen, in a slanting direction upwards, and
extended to the back-bone through one of the bowels.SCOTT absconded on the Tuesday, and has hitherto evaded apprehension, although
a reward of 50 guineas is offered for his capture.
The rule obtained against Mr. BLAKELOCK, attorney, of Lancaster, to shew cause why that gentleman should not be struuck [sic] off
the rolls for imputed bribery, connected with the election for that town in 1818, was discharged by the Court of King's Bench, on
Wednesday last. We shall give a brief statement of the facts of the case in our next.
Under the intended new Scotch and Irish distillery law, founded on the 5th Report of the Commissioners of Inquiry already adverted

Agreeably to the prayer of petition lately voted by the county of Dumfries, the Marquis of Queensberry has obtained from Government
