Great! You are lucky that the Carlisle Patriot in the 1820s appears to mix the Scots news in with the English. I had stopped transcribing the Scottish news when they were under a separate heading.

Thank you Petra for another one of mine.  I love it when the Carlisle papers have items from Dumfries.  John BARKER (1788-1837) was my gt gt grandfather. His 7th son, David,  married twice, fathered 17 children, and brought the whole family to New Zealand in 1885.

Monday last came on the election of the Magistrates of Dumfries, when the following gentlemen were unanimously re-chosen for the ensuing year, viz. John KERR, Esq. Provost; Messrs. John M'CRACKEN, James SPALDING, and James CREIGHTON, Bailies; John BARKER, Esq. Dean of Guild; and Mr. Christopher ARMSTRONG, Treasurer.
