At Dumfries, after four years of most assiduous courtship, during which the faithful lover travelled six miles almost daily to visit
his fair one, Mr. William BROWN, Locherbridge, to Miss Elizabeth GLOVER.
At Ardwall, on Monday, Mr. William IRVING, shoemaker and leather-cutter, Dumfries, to Miss Jessie LEES, daughter of Mr. William
LEES, Mauchlane.
At Edinburgh, on the 23d ult. John HALL, Esq. eldest son of Sir James HALL of Dunglas, Bart. to Miss Juliana WALKER, youngest
daughter of the late James WALKER, Esq. of Dalry, principal Clerk of Session.
Isle of Man.-Mr. Wm. KEWLEY, of Sulby, to Ann HUXTABLE, of Kk. Maughold.-At Kk. Santon, Mr. John CRINNELL, to Miss Ann CUBBON, both
of that parish.-At Kk. Andreas, Mr. Wm. CLEATOR, jun., of Ballacleator Lhane, to Jane, third daughter of Mr. Daniel CHRISTIAN, of
Ballayockey, in the above parish.
DIED.
On Tuesday morning, in Scotch-street, after a short illness, Mr. Joseph HOLME, solicitor, aged 26 years.
At Putteridgebury, near Luton, Hertfordshire, on the 20th of January, John SOWERBY, Esq., aged 81, a native of Cummersdale, near
Carlisle. Mr. SOWERBY left Cumberland when a young man, with only a pound or two in his pocket, collected, as was then the custom,
among neighbours, friends, and acquaintance, in and near the place of his residence, and bent his way for London; where, by a close
application of his industry and talents, and a combination of fortunate circumstances, he amassed an immense fortune-some say to the
amount of nearly a million sterling. Though in possession of this princely wealth, he was ever fond of recurring to the condition of
his youth, and his struggles with poverty; and he uniformly befriended all who had any claim upon his bounty. He has left nine
children.
Since our last, Mr. Thomas BONNER, of Caldewgate, aged 21 years.-In the gaol, of typhus fever, Mary HAMILTON, aged 32 years.
At Stanwix, on Wednesday last, Miss Julia-Anne MULLENDER, aged 27 years.
At Brampton, on Sunday se'nnight, Mr. BAINBRIDGE, aged 84: he had been, for upwards of 50 years, an Excise officer, in which
situation he always acquitted himself with the greatest credit.
At Stonehouse, near Brampton, on Tuesday se'nnight, Mary, eldest daughter of Sir Hew Dalrymple ROSS, K. C. B., aged 4 years.
On Monday last, at Cumwhinton, Mrs. Jane MOUSE, aged 100 years: she retained her faculties till the last, and 'carried her rigg' in
the harvest field till the autumn of 1821.
At Wigton, on Wednesday last, Mrs. PORTER, aged 70 years.
At Rosley, on Wednesday last, Mr. Joseph TAYLOR, aged 22 years.
At Rosewain, on the 29th inst. Mr. Joseph BELL, aged 36 years.
On Tuesday last, at Gill-head, in the parish of Westward, Mrs. Elizabeth GATE, aged 83 years.
At Cunnnigarth [sic], on Tuesday last, John JEFFERSON, Esq., aged 77 years.
