Hi Folks,
As you may have noticed, the last transcription from the Carlisle Patriot of 1816 was posted yesterday.
I have compiled a detailed name index for the BMD columns of the Carlisle Patriot for 1816. I have not indexed the Local News and
other articles transcriptions.
As the index is only for one year, it is not very large. There are four BMD indexes: Births (containing 75 entries), Marriages (1259
entries), Deaths (967 entries) and Others (585 entries).
The "Others" index contains the names of persons mentioned in the marriages and deaths columns that were not the persons who were
married or had died, e.g. their relatives, or the officiating minister.
If you find a relevant entry in the index, you are always advised to look either at the transcription or at the original paper as
there may well be more details than in the index.
The index and the transcriptions can be found on the forum of the Cumbria Family History Society at
https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php - scroll down to the "Transcriptions" section and choose the "Transcriptions from the
Carlisle Patriot" board, or go directly to https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php?board=116.0 . You may first be directed to the
GDPR page, where you need to decide whether you allow cookies.
This part of the forum is accessible to all comers - you don't even need to be registered with the forum or be a member of the
Cumbria FHS. However, I would strongly recommend that you at least register with the forum or preferably become a member of the
Cumbria FHS (if you aren't already) as that will give you access to a lot more resources on the forum.
Please look at the Introduction page of the index first - it explains who and what is indexed, the rules I have followed,
abbreviations etc.
You are welcome to download the index to your computer to use for your own research or to do lookups for others. It is in Microsoft
Excel 2013. However, please do NOT republish the whole index or part of it in any form, online or otherwise, without my permission.
So, what next?
I have previously transcribed the Carlisle Patriot from 1817 to February 1821. There is then a gap on the BNA website, and the
Carlisle Patriot starts again in October 1822, and runs continuously to 1832. (I previously transcribed the BMD columns and, in the
later years, some local news) from the Carlisle Journal 1833-1846.
Ten years of the Carlisle Patriot should keep me in work and you entertained for quite some time to come!
I'll be away for a few days next week, and then shall start posting from the Carlisle Patriot of October 1822.
Petra
