At Wigton, on the 13th instant, universally and deservedly esteemed, Mrs. ELSTOB, widow, in the prime of life. The social and
amiable disposition of this Lady, her sympathy and benevolence of heart, and her courtesy and affability of manner, added to every
mental and other qualifications and accomplishments that constitute the affectionate mother, the warm friend, and polished and
agreeable companion, have rendered her loss a source of lasting regret to those who really knew her.
On Friday the 13th inst. at Garth-foot, near Castlecarrock, Mr. Thos. JOHNSON, aged 50.
The 7th inst. at Workington, Miss Mary WHITESIDE, aged 69 years.-Lately, at Milford, where the vessel was riding quarantine, Captain

In Ipswich, Mrs. FORTH, widow of John FORTH, Esq. R. N. This lady was a remarkable instance of how little nature requires for
support. The only beverage she ever tasted was water and green tea, which is generally thought pernicious. She had the greatest
share of health and a remarkably good constitution, and was of a most cheerful and lively temper.
In the 69th year of his age, at his seat Grange Hall, near Rotherham, Yorkshire, the Right Hon. Richard HOWARD, Earl Effingham, F.
S. A. His Lordship held the office of Treasurer to the Queen.
LORD STANHOPE.-It is with sincere regret that we announce the death of Lord STANHOPE, a man whose whole life has been dedicated to
the improvement of mathematical, legal, and political science. His plain, unaffected, and amiable manners conciliated as much
affection as his extensive knowledge and unimpeachable integrity commanded respect from all who knew or observed him. His loss will,
on many accounts, make a chasm in public life which will not be easily supplied. The great and useful work for which he was
peculiarly qualified, and to which he had for a long time applied the most earnest attention, will, we fear, now fall to the ground:
we allude to a Digest of all the Statutes-a work of such a stupendous labour as well as information, that few persons can be
expected to set about it with vigour, unless, like Lord STANHOPE, they had acquired a sort of parental fondness for the subject, by
brooding over it for years. He died at his seat at Chevening on Sunday evening. He was in his 64th year.
