On the 7th instant, at Liverpool, the Lady of Wm. JAMES, Esq. of Barrock Lodge, Cumberland, of a son and heir. 

 

At the Vicarage-House, Torpenhow, the wife of the Rev. John FENTON, of a daughter. 

 

On Monday the 2nd inst. at Tunstal Vicarage, the wife of the Rev. W. CARUS WILSON, of a daughter. 

 

MARRIAGES. 

 

On Monday last, at St. Mary's, in this city, James HAYTON, to Mary COULTHARD. 

 

On Saturday last, at St. Cuthbert's, Richard GADDES, of the parish of Arthuret, to Catherine SINCLAIR.-On Monday, Thomas CARTNER,
joiner, to Jane REAT. 

 

On Saturday last, at Wigton, Mr. GRAY, to Sarah ROSS. 

 

At Gretna, on Wednesday last, Mr. ROBSON, surgeon, to Miss Mary TAYLOR, both of Wigton. 

 

Lately, at Torpenhow, Mr. William MOORE, of Kirkland in that parish, to Miss PLASKET, daughter of Mr. John PLASKET, of the same
place. 

 

Mr. Benj. FERGUSON, of Kendal, to Miss NICHOLSON, of Hawkshead. 

 

Mr. John BRAITHWAITE, of Selside, to Miss Barbara HARRISON, of Kendal. 

 

At Loanhead, the 3rd instant, Sir Neil MENZIES, of Menzies, Bart. to Grace Charlotte, eldest daughter of the Hon. Fletcher NORTON,
one of his Majesty's Barons of the Exchequer for Scotland. 

 

Relative to a marriage which we inserted last week at the request of the Gentleman himself, we have received the following note:- 

 

                                                                      "Workington, Wednesday Dec. 11, 1816. 

"On perusing your Newspaper on Saturday the 7th instant, it was with unfeigned surprise I read the marriage of 'Mr. H. DOWNWARD,
merchant of London, to Miss Jane S. HUTTON, youngest daughter of Mrs. HUTTON, Flimby, and of the late Mr. James HUTTON, General
Post-office, London.' As one of the nearest relatives of Mr. DOWNWARD, I beg you will, in your next publication, contradict so
erroneous an assertion; and also be pleased, most particularly, to mention that he has at this time a wife, at present residing with
her father, Mr. Wm. BARNARD, at Woodham-mortimer, in Essex. I am, Sir, your obedient humble, servant,
