City of Carlisle.
AT a MEETING of the GENTLEMEN of the City of CARLISLE, Convened by the Worshipful the MAYOR, and held at the COFFEE-HOUSE this 2nd
day of DECEMBER 1816, for the purpose of taking into consideration the best methods of affording Relief by employing the Labouring
Classes of the Inhabitants of the said City and Suburbs,
The Worshipful the MAYOR, in the Chair.
RESOLVED,That a Subscription be immediately opened.
RESOLVED,That it is the opinion of this Meeting, that every useful and necessary Work within the City and Suburbs should be
immediately carried into execution, in order to furnish Employment for Labourers at moderate Wages.
RESOLVED,That the following Gentlemen be appointed a Committee, to collect Subscriptions, and to apply the Sums Subscribed by the
liberal and humane in such a manner as they may deem most conducive to promote the general welfare at this period of public
distressany five of whom to be a Quorum.

RESOLVED,That the Magistrates of the City and County be requested to take prompt and effectual steps to prevent all Innkeepers
within the Liberties of the City and Suburbs from Selling Liquors of any description after ten o'clock at night.
RESOLVED,That Subscriptions be received at the BANKS of Messrs. FORSTERS, Messrs. GRAHAM, RAMSHAY, & Co., and Messrs. D. CARRICK &
SONS.
RESOLVED, That these Resolutions be published in the Carlisle Newspapers.
