As Mr. Joseph RICHARDSON, of Brampton, carrier, was returning from Scotby to Brampton during the violent thunder-storm on Thursday
last, a walking stick which he had in his hand was struck by the lightning, shivered to pieces, and blown to a considerable
distance, whilst he fortunately remained unhurt!

The following robbery was committed at Brampton on Thursday night:—A person named PROUD, a cheese merchant, of Carlisle, who
attended Brampton market on Wednesday, put his cart, with the cheese he had left, into a barn belonging to Mr. Joseph GRAHAM,
innkeeper. In the course of the night the barn-door was broken open, and three of the heaviest cheese taken away.

LIVERPOOL, Wednesday Morning.—We are sorry to hear that symptoms of riotous dissatisfaction have for several days been manifested in
Preston and its neighbourhood. The last accounts state, that the mob were then demolishing the windows of Mr. HORROCKS.—A detachment
of the military was this morning sent off hence to assist in putting an end to such disgraceful proceedings.

We since learn that order was speedily restored by the interference of the proper authorities, and no symptoms of disturbance
remain.

>From a Correspondent.—Dalston Races, which formerly were so famed for several diversions, were revived on Thursday and Friday
se'nnight, and, notwithstanding that Brampton Races were upon the same days, added to this the gloomy prospect of the times, there
was a great collection of sports and sportsmen.—The noted youths from all the neighbouring villages, volunteered to try their
respective strength and skill in the "tented field." Horses also, of every description, appeared to be well matched, from the fleet
Arabian to the powerful Carthorse.—The Dalston "bonny lasses," were only this time excelled by themselves, who never, on any other
occasion, appeared so charming.—The Dalston Independent Band honoured the spectators with their attendance, which gave life and
spirit to the whole.

Brampton Races, last week, afforded tolerably good sport.
