WORKINGTON
AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The Annual Meeting of the Workington Society commenced at Workington, on Wednesday last, the 31st. July,-J. C. CURWEN, Esq. M.P.,
President. The Meeting was never so numerously attended.
The Society awarded the premium of their Large Cup to Lister ELLIS, Esq. of Bush-farm near Longtown, for the best managed farm in
the county of Cumberland.
George GIBSON, Esq. of Stagshaw House, in the county of Northumberland, has won the twenty-guinea-stakes for the best yearling
short-horned heifer.
Lister ELLIS, Esq. of Bush-farm, has won the sixty-guinea-stakes, for the best two year old short-horned heifer.
Lister ELLIS, Esq. of Bush-farm, has won the sixty-guinea-stakes for the best cow.
The Society's premium is awarded to Lister ELLIS, Esq. of Bush-farm for the best cow of any breed.
When our letter came away on Thursday night, the Judges had not determined the bet between the Dunearn Ox, and the Short-horned Ox.
The following is the mode in which the business of the meeting was conducted:-
Wednesday, July 31.-Public Breakfast at the Assembly Room at nine o'clock. Inspection of the Schoose Farm. Ordinary at three
o'clock. The Cattle and Sheep viewed in the evening at six o'clock.
Thursday, August 1.-Public Breakfast. Examine various Implements at Work in the Schoose Farm, especially the Harrow from Mr. MORTON,
of Edinburgh. Visit some of the surrounding Farms; and inspect the Crops raised from Burnt Clay and Surface Soil. Ordinary at three
o'clock. In the evening the Prize Cattle examined and determined upon;-Also, the sweepstakes and bets decided. A sale of Cattle and
South-down Sheep.
Friday, August 2.-Public Breakfast. Ploughing Match. Shew of Cattle and Implements of Husbandry at the Schoose. The Prize for Horses
determined. President's Dinner at two o'clock. The Premiums adjudged and delivered at the Assembly Room at four o'clock.
In our next we shall resume the subject, and enter into particulars, which we are promised by an intelligent Correspondent.
