WESTMORLAND ASSIZES.
Appleby, Sept. 3, 1816.
On Thursday morning the Judges, Sir George WOOD, and Sir John BAYLEY, attended by the Sheriff, previous to commencing the business
of the Assizes, proceeded Church [sic], where they were received by the Rev. Dr. SATTERTHWAITE, the Mayor, and the Corporation,
dressed in their robes. An excellent sermon, and most appropriate to the occasion, was preached by the Rev. T. BELLAS, of Brough.
After Divine Service the Judges proceeded to the Courts.
CROWN BAR.
Nathan RACE, was put to the bar charged with aiding and abetting a person unknown, in maliciously shooting at John COATSWORTH.
Acquitted.
John ATKINSON, charged with committing a burglary in the house of Edward ANDERSON, of Wharton, near Kirkby Stephen, was acquitted.
On Friday, Ann WILSON, was put to the bar charged with having administered poison to her husband, John WILSON, and acquitted.
Jane MACKERITH, was charged with concealing the birth of a female bastard child,-acquitted.
Jane POTTER, was tried for having knowingly set fire to an outhouse in the occupation of J. HUNTER, of Midfield, and also acquitted.
NISI PRIUS BAR.
WAKEFIELD v. HARRIMAN and Others.-A trespass.-After the evidence on both sides had been heard it was not suffered to go to the Jury,
but referred.
The King v. The Inhabitants of Barbon.-An indictment relative to a road; verdict for the defendants.
DIXON v. FEARON.-An assault.-Verdict for the plaintiff-discharged.
WILSON v. ROBINSON.-A trespass-referred.
Doe ex Demise BRAITHWAITE and Others.-An ejectment.-Verdict for the defendants.
