[List-Cumbria] A thank you

Hi Jennifer.
My great grandfather, Henry Fenwick Pickering from Hensingham married 24
year old Anne Vickers, a woman in service on a nearby estate. I am fairly
certain she was the daughter of the Vickers family who kept the toll gate
at Whinlatter Pass near Keswick. She signed the wedding certificate with X,
but after Henry died in 1865 in Doveridge, Derbyshire she and 5 children
moved south and took up work in Tunbridge Wells. She did become literate
after marriage. Henry, after all, was a school teacher. Their first
residence was in Frizington, then Silverdale, Lancs. where he was known as
"poet of the village" according to his obituary, but I've never found
anything he wrote.
