COUNTY SESSIONS. 

 

On Tuesday last, the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for this county, commenced at Cockermouth, before J. C. SATTERTHWAITE,
Esq. chairman, and 17 other Magistrates. There was no business of importance. 

 

Mary GRAHAM was indicted for stealing some printed cotton out of the shop of Mr. WISE, of Wigton, and pleaded guilty; sentenced to
six months' imprisonment in Carlisle gaol. 

 

Joseph SIMPSON, from the neighbourhood of Kirkoswald, was found guilty of stealing a quantity of tobacco and snuff. Sentence, six
months' imprisonment. 

 

Margaret DORAN and Mary JOHNSTON were convicted of uttering counterfeit sixpences at Wigton, and sentenced to six months'
imprisonment, and to find sureties for their good behaviour for six months more. 

 

John DOYLE, out upon bail, was also indicted for a similar offence, but did not appear to take his trial, in consequence the
recognizance of him and his bail became forfeited, and were estreated into the Exchequer. 

 

At these Sessions, two indictments for Libels were preferred against Francis and Jeremiah JOLLIE, printers of this city, and found
True Bills.
