Happy New Year Petra and the rest of the list members.
All these years I have been reading the transcriptions and have not yet
found a family member, BUT, I live in hopes.
Thank you Petra.

Subject: [GENEALOGY - CUMBRIA] Carlisle Patriot 1816
A very happy New Year to all members of the lists – may you all stay
healthy in 2022, and manage to knock a few bricks out of your brick
walls!
To help with the latter, I am starting up posting transcriptions again.
The run of the Carlisle Journal ended in December 1815. The British
Newspaper Archive have the Carlisle Patriot for 1816 (I previously did
the Carlisle Patriot for 1817 to February 1821).
The Patriot is a Conservative paper, whereas the Journal is
Whig/Liberal. You will notice some subtle changes in the way they report
the news. For example, remember how the Journal made fun of the poor
design/execution of the new bridge? Well, the Patriot is full of praise
for the bridge...
I have so far managed to transcribe up to mid-April 1816, which gives me
enough posts to take us through to mid-February 2022. I shall try and
continue transcribing, but at the moment it feels like a hand-to-mouth
existence, and I cannot promise that I shall be able to keep up with
daily postings.
As before, all transcriptions will also be posted on the forum of the
Cumbria Family History Society
https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php
<https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php> (scroll down to the
Transcriptions Section and choose the "Carlisle Patriot" Board). This
sections is open to all comers. However, if you have Cumbrian ancestors
and are not already a member of the Cumbria FHS, why not make it a New
Year's resolution to join? Annual membership costs less than a single
Birth, Marriage or Death certificate... and you get access to so much
more on the forum, as well as four really interesting magazines a year.
One last plea: Transcribers thrive on feedback for their transcriptions.
Please let us know if you have found an ancestor or a relative mentioned
in a transcription, or if you found something interesting, or if you
have more information about people or events mentioned. These lists have
been deadly quiet since I stopped sending transcriptions in September,
and I miss the fun of discussions and shared research!
Best wishes,
Petra
