>From our Workington Correspondent.--"Mr. CURWEN arrived at Workington Hall, on Monday last, in the afternoon. Notwithstanding the
day being very unfavourable, a large party of gentlemen, amounting to upwards of Fifty, rode out to meet and escort him to the Hall.
On his arrival at the bridge, he was met by another party of gentlemen on foot, and an immense number of the inhabitants, who took
the horses from the carriage, and drew him up to the Hall, amidst the acclamations and congratulations of an immense number of
spectators. From thence he was drawn by the populace through the town to the Green Dragon, where Mr. C. and his friends were invited
to partake of an elegant Dinner, prepared by the gentlemen of the town, to congratulate him on his election. Upwards of fifty
gentlemen sat down to dinner with Mr. C. about 5 o'clock, and did not separate till a late hour. A number of appropriate Toasts and
Songs, with a Band of Music, added to the festivity of the scene. The evening was spent in a spirit of conviviality and unanimity
seldom witnessed. The populace were regaled at the different Public-houses in the town, and partook of the general harmony. Such was
the reception Mr. CURWEN experienced from his townsmen, after his arduous but successful contest; and which could not fail of being
highly gratifying to him and his friends."

A Public Meeting of the landholders and Friends to Agriculture, was held in the Assembly-room, Workington, on Wednesday last, when
various Resolutions were entered into, which will be found in the Advertisement.

J. C. CURWEN, Esq., M. P. for this City, has given an annual subscription of two Guineas, to the Carlisle Central School.

A very considerable portion of the upper parapet of Caldew Bridge fell down yesterday afternoon, while the workmen were employed in
keeping up another part, in a very frail state, on the opposite side; which is also expected to come down. Wooden railings were
immediately erected to guard against danger. The river is high in consequence of the rains.

On Saturday last, while the principal part of the inhabitants were in the streets to witness the chairing of Mr. CURWEN, a woman
named HALL (daughter of H. SEWELL, who was committed a short time since for stealing planks from the new bridges), took the
opportunity of entering the cellar of a public house in Caldewgate, from whence she stole a bottle containing a gallon of whiskey,
one pound of butter, and a small quantity of bread and cheese. On the following day the articles were missed; suspicion falling on
this woman, her residence was searched, and part of the whiskey found. She was apprehended on Monday, and committed to take her
trial for the offence.

The following curious circumstance occurred a short time ago:-a person who had been at the last Newcastle Fair, on his return home
with a drove of cattle, stopped at Mr. Robert DOVE's, of Green-head, to get breakfast, and left the cattle at the door. During his
absence one of them took the opportunity of walking into the house, and went up stairs into one of the bed-rooms, and laid quietly
down; on his coming out the animal was missed from the drove, and search was immediately made for it in all directions; a person was
mounted on horseback and dispatched back on the road to look for it, but all without effect, and the animal was given up for lost,
until the afternoon, when one of the family having occasion to go up stairs, found it laying quietly by the side of the bed; it was
driven down stairs and rejoined the drove, to the no small satisfaction of the owner.

The ensuing Quarter Sessions of the Peace, for this County, will be holden at the Court Houses, in this City, on Tuesday the 23d of
April next.-Vide Advertisement.

Lancaster Assizes will commence on Saturday the 23rd instant, before Sir Alexander THOMPSON and Sir Simeon LE BLANC.
