Sir Philip MUSGRAVE, of Eden Hall, Bart. and Edward STANLEY, of Ponsonby Hall, Esq. are the Stewards for next year's Carlisle-races.

We derive the following from undoubted authority:—The number of Insolvents discharged under the Insolvent Act up to the 1st July,
1816, is 9,700; produce of their effects £1,500; amount of debts, Two Millions Sterling!!

We are sorry again to state, that the weather during the past fortnight, has been extremely unfavourable to the harvest, which, as
yet, is only just begun in many parts of this and the two neighbouring counties. One fair day is generally followed by two of rain.
To day (Friday) we have fine weather; but the past leaves us little hope that it will continue. Corn is on the advance in this and
the neighbouring markets.

The field of Dr. HEYSHAM was broken into on Sunday evening last, and two horses stolen thereout. A liberal reward is offered for
information relative to the offenders.—See advertisement.

The Gothic entrance to the Hall was beautifully illuminated with coloured lamps. Fireworks were let off previous to the dancing,
which commenced about half past nine. The Ball was opened by Mr. LAWSON, and Mrs. HOWARD, of Corby, followed by about thirty couple
of dancers.—The Library, fitted up as a supper-room on this occasion, was thrown open at twelve o'clock. The supper consisted of
every suitable delicacy, and was particularly distinguished by a profuse display of rare game and fruit. Dancing re-commenced at two
o'clock, and continued with unabated spirit till six. The whole was very superb and conducted in the most pleasing style, which was
much heightened by the unremitting and polite attention of Mrs. WYBERGH to the genteel and numerous company.

Major-Gen. GOSSELIN and family are arrived in England from America. The Major-Gen. is well known to our readers, having been
stationed here some time as Colonel of the District.

We have still to lament the very great danger to which the greater portion of the corn crops of this Island are exposed from the
continued heavy rains which have fallen since our last.—The herring fishery also has suffered from the unseasonable weather, the
boats not having generally gone to sea during the present week! some boats have ventured and have been well rewarded for their
industry and perseverance.—Isle of Man Gazette, Oct. 3.

Last week, Mr. John FORSTER was elected a surgeon to the Infirmary, Newcastle.
