CARLISLE RACES, 1816.

The weather during the greater part of the races was wet and uncomfortable in the highest degree, which, of course prevented the
attendance of hundreds. On the second day, scarcely any Ladies, and very few equipages appeared on the course. On Tuesday and
Thursday, the company was more splendid and much more numerous. The sport on the whole was of an indifferent character. The Lord
Lieutenant, the Marquis of Queensberry, Lord LOWTHER, Sir Philip MUSGRAVE, Bart., and many of the principal nobility and gentry of
this and the neighbouring counties were present. The Ordinaries, Balls, and Theatre, were well attended. Betting moderate; the
knowing ones chiefly taken in.

The Prize will be divided.-The Second Prize was not played for.-The weather was very unfavourable, and in consequence, not half the
usual number of persons attended to witness the sports. Much strength and skill were displayed, and Cumberland, as usual, triumphed.
