LANCASTER ASSIZES.
Result of the Trials and the Sentences of the Crown Prisoners:
Mary SIMPSON, a true bill was found against her at the last assizes, for uttering a forged bank note, but her trial was put off, on
account of the absence of a material witness on her behalf. Acquitted.Wm. TAYLOR, George APPLEBY, Francis COLLINS, Owen BOYLE, and
William HOWARD, for assaulting and robbing James ASTLEY, on the King's highway, at Manchester; also for assaulting and robbing
Samuel BRIERLY, on the King's highway at Manchester aforesaid. HOWARD admitted evidencethe others, death.David SINGLETON, for
burglariously breaking and entering the dwelling house of Stephen SHELDON, at Manchester, and stealing thereout two cheeses, his
property. Death.Benjamin OLIVER, for uttering forged £5 Bank notes, at Liverpool. Transported 14 years.John JONES, John JAMES,
James BARROW, Michael MAGUIRE, and Hugh OSBURN, charged with house-breaking at Toxteth Park, near Liverpool. OSBURN admitted
evidence. Death.W. DOYLE pleaded guilty of having forged bank notes in his possession. Transported 14 years.John HART, for forging
two bills of exchange at Liverpool. Death.Elizabeth Jane TOWNSHEND, for stealing sundry articles at Liverpool. Death.Patrick
M'QUADE, for uttering a forged bank note at Manchester. Transported 14 years.John FRAZER, John TURNER, and Peter DALEY, for two
highway robberies at Manchester. Death.Mary BRIDGE, for having in her possession four forged bank of England notes, knowing them to
be forged. Transported 14 years.Mary SUTCLIFFE, for uttering to Wm. STOCKWELL, at Wardleworth, a forged one pound bank of England
note. Acquitted.John NEIL and Thomas KERSHAW pleaded guilty of having forged bank of England notes in their possession, at Oldham.
Transported 14 years.John HADFIELD, for robbing Joseph SMITH, on the highway, at Manchester. No bill.Ann CROSS and Sarah BETLEY,
for uttering forged bank notes at Manchester. Acquitted.Wm. HARRIS, for stealing four doubloons, six dollars, &c. the property of
Israel HESSE, at Liverpool. Death.John TAYLOR, for having in his possession a forged bank note, at Ashton-under-Lyne. Transported
14 years.Matthew WILSON, for stealing a gelding the property of Thomas PARKE, at West Derby. Death.John LANE and Wm. CARDWELL, for
a burglary in the house of David HARPER, of Liverpool. Acquitted.John ENTWISTLE, for robbing George AINSLEY, on the highway, at
Manchester. Acquitted.John SPENCER, for robbing Robert BOOTH, on the highway, at Manchester. Acquitted.James GILLOCK, for stealing
bank notes in the house of John ROTHERHAM, at Liverpool. Death.Wm. LEE, for stealing a pocket-book, containing two bills of
Exchange and twelve bank notes, the property of Thomas BRERETON, of Manchester. Imprisoned one year.John M'GLOCHLIN, for stealing
five pieces of calico, in the bleaching-grounds of Sebastian NASH and James MELLOR, at Newton, Lancashire. Transported 14
years.James LEE, David CUSICK, Mary DELANY, Susan CUSGROVE, and Alice SHERRY, for paying and putting off to John IRELAND, at
Liverpool, a quantity of counterfeit coin, at a lower rate than the same did by its denomination import. LEE acquittedthe rest
imprisoned one year each.James M'Lean BOYD, for uttering forged bank of England notes, at Liverpool. Death.Henry CUNLIFFE, for
uttering a forged Bank of England note, at Rochdale. Acquitted.David STINTON, for maliciously cutting or stabbing Joseph ROTHWELL,
of Lancaster, with intent to maim him. Acquitted.Sarah GORDON, for having in her possession, without lawful excuse, three forged
Bank of England notes. Transported 14 years.James QUIN, for having in his possession, without lawful excuse, twenty-two forged Bank
of England notes for one pound each. Transported 14 years.Wm. LEIGH and Alice LEIGH, for uttering forged notes, at Warrington. No
prosecution.T. KERSHAW, for uttering Bank of England notes. Transported 14 years.Barney CRUMMY, for having a forged Bank of
England note in his possession, knowing it to be such. Transported 14 years.Sarah HASSALL, for uttering forged notes, at
Manchester. Transported 14 years.Thomas BRATT, for a similar offence, at Wigan. Acquitted.James THOMPSON, for a burglary in the
dwelling-house of John PARKER, at Toxteth-Park, near Liverpool. Acquitted.James KING, for assaulting and robbing Charles ROYLE, on
the King's highway, at Manchester. Death.Mary CLARKE, for killing and slaying James CLARKE, at Manchester. Acquitted.Margaret
FALKNER, for the wilful murder of her female bastard child, at Warrington. Imprisoned one year.Thos. WILLIAMSON, for killing and
slaying John MILLINGTON, at Warrington. Imprisoned one year.James TURNER, for having threatened to stab with a knife Simon WHIP, at
Todmorden, the said TURNER not being then of sane mind. Acquitted.Margaret BRACKEN, for uttering base coin at Liverpool. Imprisoned
one year.Joseph HANNAH, for being at large before the expiration of the term for which he was ordered to be transported.
Death.Alice HILTON, for the wilful murder of her female bastard child, at Prestwich. Imprisoned one year.Thos. TUCKER, for being
at large before the expiration of the term for which he was ordered to be transported. Death.James PATE and William GILLIBRAND, for
a burglary in the house of Gerard POTTER, at Adlington. PATE, deathGILLIBRAND, acquitted.Thos. WILSON, for breaking open the house
of Anthony PRITCHARD, at Sefton, in the day-time, no person being therein, and stealing wearing apparel. Death.Thos. SMITH, for
killing and slaying Alice CHADDERTON, at Ashton-under-Lyne. Acquitted.John TAYLOR, for killing and slaying Mary MADDOCKS, at
Flixton. Imprisoned 12 months.John COOPER, for stealing a gelding, the property of J. G. DYSON, of Pendlebury. Death.William
HOPTON, for stealing two promissory notes, the property of Henry RAWLINSON, of Burnley. Acquitted.John EARLE, for a burglary at
Liverpool. Death.Sam. NELSON, for robbing J. BOWKER, at Chetham. Death.Thos. ECKERSLEY, for robbing bleach-grounds, at Pendlebury.
Imprisoned 12 months.Nat. MEADOWCROFT, for killing and slaying Edw. KELLY, at Manchester. Acquitted.John HAYES and John ROSCOE,

HOLROYD, at Ashton-under-Lyne; also for the several murders of W. HOLROYD and Ann NEWTON. Death.Daniel DALY, for killing and
slaying Robert ROGERS, at Liverpool. Imprisoned one year.Wm. PERRY and Chas. ROBINSON, for assaulting and robbing Jas. CASTELLOW,
on the King's highway, at Manchester. Transported for life.John TOMLINSON, Thos. HYDE, and John HAYNES, for a burglary in the house
of J. TAYLOR, at Manchester. Transported for 7 years.Peter MONTGOMERY, alias HULME, alias HUGHES, for uttering three forged Bank of
England notes, with intent to defraud Joseph NEIL, and others, at Whalley. Death.Rich. DOBSON, for stealing four watches, the
property of various persons at Liverpool. Death.John MURRAY, John WILLIAMS, and Richard HAUGHTON, for a riot, at Liverpool.
Imprisoned six months.James WHEELAN and John CUMMINS, for the wilful murder of James BEAGHAN, at Liverpool. Acquitted.Robt.
SUTCLIFFE, for uttering counterfeit money, at Burnley. Imprisoned one year.John MAIDEN, for a burglary in the house of T. NELSON,
of Bacup. Acquitted.Wm. WILKINSON and Rich. WORSWICK, for stealing a quantity of brass, in the engine-house of HARGREAVES and Co.
at Padiham. Acquitted.Wm. YEARSLEY, for killing and slaying D. BANCROFT, at Prescot. No bill.
