Seems by 1820 they managed 12 miles per hour.
But then, the Earl of Lonsdale would probably travel in his own coach, which means he could not exchange horses so would have to
rest the horses overnight.

I wonder how long the journey to London took in those days, pre-railways.
How fast did they travel? 30 miles a day? More?
