THE THEATRE.-Mr. M'CREADY opens his theatrical campaign, for the season, in this city, on the 1st May next. From the number and
talents of the forces which he intends to bring forward, we have no doubt that this gentleman will reap a harvest of glory as well
as of profit.-See Adv. 

 

A pig, half-bred, the property of Mr. Thomas STAMPER, of Fair-bank, in this county, was last week slaughtered, which weighed 46st.
5lb. without the offals. 

 

The first fresh herrings for the season appeared in Whitehaven market on Thursday week. 

 

James TOPPING, Esq. is appointed Solicitor General for the county of Durham. 

 

ACCIDENTS.-On Wednesday se'nnight an inquest was taken on the body of Sarah STEAD, of Askham Bryan, who was drowned by falling into
a pond whither she was sent to fetch water;-on the day after upon Mr. John LAWSON, of York, who was killed by one of the wheels of
his cart passing over his body.-Yesterday week six men and three boys were drowned in a fishing-boat, near Spa, at Scarsbro'.-On
Sunday last, at Kingmoor-house, near Carlisle, a fine child belonging to the gardener was unfortunately drowned by falling into a
duck-pond, in the garden. 

 

It is reported that several of the English Militia Regiments, now an duty in Ireland, have mutinied in consequence of their being
detained in that country beyond the time which the law prescribed for their being embodied.
