To the EDITOR of the CARLISLE JOURNAL.

MR. EDITOR-I was so highly gratified with a paragraph that appeared a few days ago in the Globe London newspaper, that out of
respect to the gallant individual to whom it refers, I am anxious to give it every publicity;-therefore solicit for it a place in
your widely-circulated Journal.-It is (by the way) somewhat worthy of remark, that when Mr. HARRIS acted as Adjutant to the Carlisle
Local Militia, a day's pay was voluntarily subscribed by the corps, for the purpose of procuring a cup to be presented to that
gentleman in token of respect for his indefatigable zeal in disciplining that body of men. However, on referring the business to an
individual high in command; his discernment could not penetrate into that merit of the gallant officer which has since been
acknowledged both by his country and his Royal Master; and the consequence was, that the projected honourable testimony of the corps
was reluctantly (on the part of the other officers and the men) compelled to be abandoned.-Your attention to this will oblige a
constant reader and a CARLISLE LOCAL MILITIA OFFICER.

-----

On Friday se'nnight, sixteen gentlemen, friends of Major THOMAS NOEL HARRIS, of Whitwell, who lost his right arm at the battle of
Waterloo, gave a most elegant dinner to that gallant officer, at the George Inn, Stamford (Sir Gerrard NOEL, Bart. in the chair),
and presented the Major with a large silver cup, as a mark of their esteem, and complimentary to him on the valour he shewed in the
various actions in which he had been engaged on the continent. Major HARRIS, we understand, set off on Tuesday for France again, to
join Lord STEWART, and is intrusted with the four swords voted by the Corporation of London to the Commanders of the four armies of
the Allies.
