GOOSEBERRY SHOW.-At a Meeting of the Free and Brotherly Gardeners, on Wednesday last, in this city, for the show of gooseberries,

It gives us great pain to state, that yesterday week, as Robert PARKER, Esq. of Heaton Norris, brother to A. PARKER, Esq. of
Carleton, near Carlisle, was driving through Stockport in his gig, the horse took fright, and ran against a post, which precipitated
him with such violence on the pavement as to occasion almost instant death. His loss will be deeply felt and lamented by his
afflicted widow and numerous friends. His purse was always open to assist in every work connected with religion and benevolence. The
poor have lost in him a bountiful benefactor.-He was in his 71st year. 

 

At the annual grand sealing of the Dean and Chapter of Durham, last week, the Rev. S. GAMLEN, A. M. was presented to the vicarage of
Heighington, with the curacy of Croxdale; and the Rev. Thos. HEBDON, A. M. to the curacy of Pillington Hallgarth. 

 

The Rev. J. HUDSON, A. M. late Fellow and Tutor of Trinity College, Cambridge, has taken possession of the vicarage of Kendal, to
which he was sometime ago appointed. 

 

TO INNKEEPERS.-Orders have been issued to allow innkeepers to charge for men on their march 1s. 3d. per day for cavalry, and 1s. 5d.
for infantry. 

 

The York Assizes closed yesterday week.-The prisoners under sentence of death were reprieved, except the three men for violating the
persons of children under ten years of age. 

 

The men of the late Local Militia entering into Regulars or Militia are to receive full bounty, without any deduction on account of
the sum received by them on being formerly enrolled. 

 

Shipping News. 

 

The Nancy, BUTTERMERE, of Maryport, is arrived from British America, at the above place, with fir timber. 

 

The Port of Sunderland, ROBINSON, of Maryport, is arrived at Kirkcudbright, from British America, fir timber. 

 

The Lady Cremorne, JOHNSTON, of Maryport, is arrived at Lancaster, from British America, fir timber. 

 

The Hero, BURTON, of Whitehaven, has arrived at Dublin, from St. Vincent. 

 

Yesterday week, the brig Jessy, of Dumfries, returned to Glencaple, with a cargo of timber from N. America. 

 

The North Star, --, from Dumfries to Miramichi, was spoken with on the 9th inst. in lat. 52. long. 21. all well. 

 

On Saturday last was launched from the building yard of Messrs Adam WOOD and Co., Maryport, a beautiful new vessel called the
SHEERWATER. 

 

On Saturday last was launched from the building yard of Messrs. K WOOD, PEILE and Co. at Workington a fine new copper-bottomed
vessel of 300 tons called the WILLIAM WISE, built for Capt. John BENNIE.
