“The 15th inst. at his seat, Holm-Rook, near Ravenglass, Skeffington LUTWIDGE, Esq. of Whitehaven, an Admiral of the Blue, and in the 78th year of his age. Admiral LUTWIDGE (whilst Commodore) was the first Naval Preceptor for Lord NELSON.” 

 

Does anyone know where the given name  “Skeffington” comes from.

I have it in my family for someone born in 1784 in (what is now) Northern Ireland.
