The Horticultural Society held their third Annual Meeting at the house of Mr. John HARDING, sign of the Apple Tree, Harraby Hill,
for the show of Gooseberries, on Wednesday the 10th inst. where an elegant cup was given for the heaviest berry of any colour; the
prizes were adjudged as follows:-

The Assizes commence at Appleby this day. The following prisoners are for trial:-
George WATSON, charged with the wilful murder of Mary WATSON.
Thomas MILLAR, charged with burglariously breaking into the house of John CHAPELHOW, of Appleby, innkeeper.
Thomas NICHOLSON, charged on the oath of Elizabeth HALL, of Carlisle, with a rape.
The gentlemen of Appleby and its vicinity have postponed the shooting of partridges, &c. until the 14th September next, in
consequence of the lateness of the harvest.
