Hi Peter - that’s great.
Apparently, according to Diocese of Carlisle records of Bowness
(1814-1855), there were six schools in Bowness Around that time educating
approx 20-30 children each. This wasn’t uncommon, when we moved into our
last house we discovered that it too had been a school in the 1850s and
were lucky enough to find advertisements placed by the head of the
establishment , and of course the census held the names.
I’m not sure how long ‘your’ school lasted, as John died In 1844 the year
after his daughter Martha Jane ( later to become Martha Jane Milbourne) was
born. He was just 33 yrs old. Johns wife Martha died in 1882.
I’ve enjoyed delving about! Thanks for filling in an afternoon for me!
