The Mermaid frigate has arrived at Cork, having under convoy the Northumberland and other militia regiments. The Northumberland are
to be quartered at Cork. 

 

The Westmorland militia arrived in the river at Dublin, on Sunday se'nnight, and on the next day received orders to proceed to
Dunslanghan, on the road to Sligo. 

 

The Gazette announces the promotion of James HALL, Gent. to be Adjutant to the Carlisle Regiment of the Local Militia, vice HARRIS,
promoted in the line. 

 

Mr. John BURNS, a considerable butcher, at Booth near Ulverston, was lately drowned at the canal at the former place. 

 

Counterfeiters of bank tokens are liable to seven years transportation; utterers, first time, six months imprisonment; second time
two years imprisonment; third time, fourteen years transportation. 

 

Wednesday, arrived at Workington, the Commerce, Capt. RECE, from Quebec in 31 days; left there when she sailed, the following ships
belonging to Workington: Seaton, SCOTT; Albion, THOMPSON; Lovely Nelly, PIGGS; Fawset, ASHLEY; Chance, RODGERSON; Grase, MARTIN. 

 

The Kingston Packet, PITCAIRN, of Maryport, is arrived from America, at Maryport, all well. 

 

The Mariner, W. HURST, master, of Whitehaven, is arrived at Dublin from Trinidad, after a passage of 46 days; sailed with the fleet
from St. Thomas's the *d July, and parted on the 17th. 

 

The ship Earl of Lonsdale, CRAKE, of Whitehaven, from Jamaica, at London, on the 31st of July last, spoke the brig Martha, of
Workington, from Whitehaven to St. John's, in 42 38. N.—Long. *3. 40 W. All well. 

 

Also on the **th ultimo, spoke the Clifton, of Workington, from St. Ubes, bound to Quebec, out fifteen days, all well—in lat. 44.

The Julius Cæsar, M'IVER, from Jamaica, is arrived at London. 

 

The Greenhow, SHERIDAN, from Whitehaven, is arrived at Jamaica, after a passage of 45 days. 

 

The Canada, POTTS, and Sally, SANDERSON, all of Maryport, are arrived from America, at Scotland. 

 

The sloop Vulcan, PLATT, was put on shore a little to the north of Workington, on the night of the 26th ult. She had sailed from
Whitehaven with a cargo of merchant's goods, a part of which she had discharged at Ramsey, Isle of Mann.
