Our readers will perceive, from advertisement in another part of this Paper, that Mr. and Mrs. KEAN intend to arouse the inhabitants
of Carlisle with a dramatic entertainment this day.-Of the abilities of Mr. KEAN we have heard much. His acting, in general, is
easy, unaffected, and classical; but his principal merit consists in tragedy. In Octavian, it is universally acknowledged that he
stands unrivalled; and Hamlet, Romeo, Achmet, Norval, Richard, &c. stand among the foremost of his performances.-Mr. KEAN also
possesses some literary talent, having produced a Melo Drama, entitled, "The Cottage Foundling, or the Robbers of Ancora.

Mr. and Mrs. MOSS will finish their dramatic entertainments at Wigton on Wednesday next, when, we doubt not, the attractive talents
of Mrs. and Mr. MOSS, whose vocal and musical powers have been appreciated by the first audiences in the kingdom, will receive the
reward which the inhabitants of Wigton have never failed to pay to real merit.-Mr. KEAN, of whom we have spoken above, will, we
understand, add to the attraction of the evening.

On Sunday last, the Judges of Assize, with the Sheriff, Grand Jury, and several of the Counsellors, attended divine service at our
cathedral. A very excellent sermon was delivered by the Rev. Dr. LAW, from Peter 1 c. 2, v. 14. We have given in the back page of
this Paper a report of the criminal trials, and of some of those which engaged the attention of the Court at Nisi Prius.-We shall
give the remainder in our next.

The company was very numerous. Not less than 220 attended the assembly on Monday, and 113 on Tuesday.-The Assizes finished
yesterday; and the Judges proceeded to Appleby.

The harvest has become pretty general in this neighbourhood,-reapers' wages, on an average, 2s. 6d. each.

                                                                                              Bristol, August 22.

The Royal Westmorland Militia, after being inspected on Durdom downs, by Major General HOPE, embarked at Pill, this morning, the 22d
inst. about five miles below this place, in five small vessels, hired by the Transport Board. The destination of the regiment is
Dublin. The commanding officer (Major SCOTT) and staff, with the married ladies and children, embarked on board the Gulph of Paria,
J. PARFOOT, master.-The Royal Radnor Militia embarked nearly about the same time, in three small hired pacquets, for the same
destination.

The Right Hon. the Earl of Lonsdale has appointed J. C. CURWEN, Esq. M. P. of Workington Hall, the Rev. Peter HOW, rector of
Workington, Miles PONSONBY, Esq. James STEEL, Esq. the Rev. R. ARMITAGE, R. WILKINSON, Esq. and William HODGSON, of Carlisle, Esq.
to be his Lordship's Deputy Lieutenants for the county of Cumberland.

At the Nisi Prius court, Northumberland, a mandamus was brought by the Rev. Mr. BARNES, vicar of Berwick, calling upon the mayor of
Berwick to shew cause why he refused to affix the town's seal to a burgess's ticket, voted by the guild to Mr. BARNES, in March,
1810. To this mandamus the mayor returned, that the prosecutor was not duly elected, and that the order of guild granting the
freedom to him had been rescinded. Mr. PARK, for the prosecutor, called the mover and seconder, and two other witnesses, who clearly
proved that the motion was duly made and seconded, and put upon the minutes in the usual way, for discussion at the adjournment, at
which guild a poll was demanded and taken, and the motion carried by a majority of ONE VOTE. Upon this Mr. Justice CHAMBRE
interfered, and said the case was clearly proved on the part of the prosecutor, and that this being the grant of a franchise, the
rescinding order was completely nugatory and void. The jury, under the directions of his Lordship, found a verdict for the
prosecutor, that Mr. BARNES was duly elected. Upon this a peremptory mandamus will issue in Michaelmas term, commanding the mayor to
admit Mr. BARNES to the freedom of Berwick, and according to the directions of the statute, the corporation are to pay ALL COSTS. A
great number of witnesses attended on the part of the defendant, but only one was called.
