We are happy to hear that the National Society in London have granted one hundred pounds towards building the Central School-house

On Sunday last, the Rev. H. J. HARE, preached a most excellent and pathetic sermon at Workington, in aid of the fund for the

rejoiced their families and friends by their arrival at those places.---More are daily expected.
On Sunday last, a house belonging to an old widow woman in a lane adjoining Kirkby-street, Maryport, took fire, when some linen in a
chest, 6 or 7 bank notes, the curtains of the bed, and a bed-cover, were consumed before the fire was got under. It is supposed to
have originated from sparks falling into the chest out her to[bacco pipe.]
On the evening of Monday week, as William HOLLIDAY, of the Esps in Embleton, was returning from Cockermouth, he unfortunately fell
over the parapet of the bridge leading out of that town (near the workhouse), and was so dreadfully bruised in the head as to
occasion his death the next morning. He was 25 years of age.
A dispensation has passed the Great Seal to enable the Rev. James SATTERTHWAITE, A. M. F. A. S. Chaplain in Ordinary to his

the death of the Rev. Dr. LOWTHER.

congregation of Thorneyford, Northumberland.
A Petition has been signed at North Shields against the Bill for altering the corn laws. The numbers of persons who have flocked to
give their signatures are beyond all former example.
Lord Sidmouth has issued a Circular to the Commanding Officers of the Local Militia, in which they are informed that it is not the
intention of Government to train and exercise that force during the present year.
Saturday last, was launched from the building-yard of Messrs. Kelsick WOOD, PEILE, and Co. at Workington, a handsome new vessel, of
350 tons burthen, called the Shannon, built for Captain KENDAL, and intended for foreign trade.
Thirty-three vessels are arrived this week at Liverpool with provisions; two are from Carlisle, viz. the Lady Lowther and the Nancy,
