On Thursday, Mr. CUMMIN, supervisor of this district, in consequence of information, went with proper assistance to a sequestered
place upon Spadeadam Waste, parish of Bewcastle, in this county, and seized a private still and a quantity of spirits, &c. which
were brought away. The owner, we understand, will be prosecuted according to law, in order to deter others from following such
illicit practices.

CAUTION.—On Wednesday last, Michael CARSON, carter, was fined by the Magistrates of Carlisle, at the instance of Mr. WOOLMAR, for
the negligence and misconduct of his servant in blocking up the turnpike road at Eden bridge, so as to impede the passage of the
mail-coach,—by riding on his cart, and giving abusive language to the guard.—Being the first offence, the fine was mitigated to 10s.

Brampton Court was held on Monday last, but nothing of interest transpired. In the afternoon the Court adjourned to the Howards'
Arms inn, where, with a few select friends, they partook of an excellent dinner. After the cloth was removed, a peck of punch, as is
customary, was introduced upon the table, which gave rise to many excellent toasts, particularly from the worthy chairman, Thomas
RAMSHAY, Esq.

On Sunday last was preached at Penrith, by the Rev. H. J. HARE, in aid of the fund for the conversion of the Jews, an excellent
pathetic sermon; after which nearly £30 was collected, much to the credit of the worthy inhabitants of that town, whose liberality
reflects the highest honour on the place.

A man living at Aspatria, in this county, of the name of WATSON, has for a considerable time past parted with considerable portions
of tape worm; and he lately voided one of the tenia solium species that measured in length 14 yards, after taking a powerful
vermifuge remedy, by the advice of Mr. WISE, of Maryport.

A few days ago, Mrs. ARCHER, wife of Captain ARCHER, of the brig Active, of Maryport, having occasion to go out of her house on
business, locked an inner room, in which were drawers, containing bank notes amounting to £50: on her return, she found the inner
door standing open, and, on examination, a Bank of England £5 note, and Carlisle £1 1s. note, were missing.—On Tuesday evening last,
a woman in disguise met a little boy in the street, and asked if he would shew her Mrs. ARCHER's, as she was a stranger. She then
gave the boy a letter, desiring him to carry it into the house, in which was the £5 note of the stolen money.—The woman fled.

And on Friday the 29th ult. while Mr. BANKS, tin-worker, Maryport, was busy, some person found means to purloin his money-box,
containing a considerable sum in notes and cash, with which they got clear off.

For several weeks past the country people attending Maryport market have made a practice of selling their butter, &c. to certain
huxters from Cockermouth and Workington, without exposing it in public market. We understand it is the determination of the
inhabitants of Maryport to prosecute all such sellers and buyers in future, according to act of Parliament.

A dispensation has passed the Great Seal, empowering the Rev. Harrison SHAW, LL. B. to hold the Rectory of Bowness, in this county
(to which he has been presented by the Earl of Lonsdale), with the Vicarage of St. Michael, Appleby, otherwise Bongate, in
Westmorland.

The Rev. Allison STEBLE, Rector of Corney, has been presented, by the Earl of Lonsdale, to the rectory of Wicham, void by the
resignation of the Rev. James SATTERTHWAITE, A. M.

At Berwick sessions, on the 25th ult. George LAMB, stating himself to be a probationer licentiate of the church of Scotland, was
indicted for celebrating a marriage irregularly, without licence or the publication of banns; but the evidence not being sufficient,
he was discharged.

An order has been issued by the Secretary at War, that all militia sergeants who have served twenty years, and had retired upon 5d.
per day, are in future to receive 1s. and those after a service of five years to receive 6d. ten years, 8d. and fifteen years, 10d.

We have great satisfaction in communicating to our readers the following intelligence:—The Committee of the British and Foreign
Bible Society have taken measures to supply every prisoner of war, leaving this country, with a Bible in his own language.

The following vessels, belonging to Workington, sailed from Cork on the 23d ult. with the fleet bound for Newfoundland and North
America:—Margaret, PILKINGTON; Fanny, PEARSON; Thompson, THOMPSON; Jane, MICHAM [?]; Favourite, MOORDAFF; and Integrity, EMERSON.
