 Hi Folks,

With the Rootsweb lists still working at the moment (well, sometimes they do actually work) and new lists having started up on the
Cumbria FHS server, I am currently posting my transcriptions to six lists at the same time, which is clearly ridiculous. As well as
posting them on the Cumbria FHS Forum.

Okay, the three Rootsweb lists will drop out at the end of February.

I note that the Cumbria FHS mailing lists now number four - Cumbria, Cumberland, Westmorland and Northwest (the last two haven't
really got going yet).

While I can understand the need for a separate Northwest list (Lancashire is huge and might easily swamp Cumbria), I really wonder
why there have to be three separate lists for Cumbria and its constituent parts. Could not Cumberland, Westmorland and Cumbria be
merged into one list? The respective Rootsweb lists have all been very quiet over the last few years, even the Cumberland list,
which has been the most active of the three.

Could I urge the respective list Mum and Dad (Lynne and Kim) to get together and discuss whether they would be happy to merge the
three CFHS lists into one Cumbria list? From my own point of view, I don't really want to post to three different CFHS lists as well
as posting the transcriptions on their forum - this is unnecessary duplication and just clogs up their server, and many people's
inboxes. I am currently posting to both the CFHS Cumbria and Cumberland lists, simply because they are the most active ones, but
would like to drop one of them (presumably Cumberland) in the future.

I don't want to start a war or anything, just feel that we have a good chance at the moment to rationalise things a bit.

What do other people think?

Also just as a reminder - my transcriptions don't always make it through to the Rootsweb lists (the Rootsweb servers are very
temperamental). You can always find the most recent (and all past) transcriptions on the Cumbria FHS Forum:

https://cumbriafhs.com/smfmsgbrd/index.php

Scroll down to almost the bottom and go to the "Transcription" sections - I am currently posting on the Carlisle Journal board.

Thanks for reading this.

Petra
