The Lord Bishop of this Diocese will hold an Ordination at Rose Castle on the 7th July next. See Adv.
As a proof of the mildness of the season, a hive of bees, in the garden of Capt. John SLUIT, of Workington, swarmed on Saturday
last-being the first known to have cast this season, in Cumberland.
Mr. James HARLING, of Kirkland, Kendal, has a crop of winter barley, at Little Lound, containing near three acres; one of the ears
of which was shot on the 26th inst. and produced 84 corns, besides others that were not formed at the time.
Additional tolls of one penny on carriages, and one half penny on horses, will be levied at all turnpikes on and after the 2d June
inst.
The valuable gold watch, snuff box, and pocket-book, which we mentioned in a former paper to have been missing, when the body of Mr.
M'GREGOR was found in the Canal, near Preston, were discovered in a pillow, on Saturday last. This circumstance, we trust, will
exculpate all who have been suspected of having robbed and murdered the unfortunate man.
It is not, we believe, generally known, that by the last Militia Act it is provided, that the family of no militia man serving as a
substitute, hired man, or volunteer, shall be entitled to the allowances; and that such allowances shall only extend to the wives
and families of ballotted men.
The Harriet of Whitehaven, from Jamaica to London, having lost her rudder, it is supposed has been abandoned at sea.
