We are desired to state that the public days of the Lord Bishop of Carlisle will be held at Rose Castle, on the two last Thursdays
in July, and the two first Thursdays in August, at half past three on each day. 

 

On Sunday last the Rev. Mr. HENDERSON, of this town, preached a sermon in the Presbyterian Chapel, Penrith, for the benefit of the
British and Foreign Bible Society; when the sum of £9 7s. 10d. was collected. 

 

Mr. Justice CHAMBRE and Mr. Baron WOOD have chosen the Northern Circuit for the ensuing assizes. 

 

The largest steam engine ever erected has been lately constructed for William Pit, near Whitehaven, by the directions of Lord
Lonsdale. An idea of the quantity of water which may be thrown up by it may be conceived, when it is known to be not less than one
hundred and twenty horse power.—We understand, that one much larger is about to be erected at Workington, for J. C. CURWEN, Esq. 

 

At Newcastle races, on Thursday, the gold cup was won Mr. RIDDELL's X, Y, Z; and the 50l. by Lord MONTGOMERIE's Diana. And on
Friday, the 50l. for beaten horses was won by Mr. HODGSON's Woodpecker. 

 

During the thunder storm on Saturday week, three thousand five hundred panes of glass were broken in the gardens of Earl
Fitzwilliam, at Wentworth, Yorkshire. 

 

The Experiment, COLLIN, of Maryport, is arrived at Richmond Bay, America, passage out 33 days: all well. 

 

The Ellen, THOMSON, of Maryport, is arrived at St. John's, America: all well. 

 

The Birkby, SCAIFE, of Maryport, is arrived at Quebec, in 26 days from Liverpool. 

 

The Wilson, NICHOLSON, of Whitehaven, is arrived at Antigua from Lancaster. 

 

The Castor, KENDAL, of Workington, is arrived at Liverpool from Amelia Island. 

 

The Spanish Patriot, FISHER, of Workington, is arrived at Cork from Trinidad. 

 

The Fletcher, WARD, of Workington, is arrived at Liverpool from Trinidad.
