Thank you for your email. I always interpreted that as an error by the
transcribers. The birth certificate is attached. I will now get a birth
certificate for the 29.12.1861. Ancestry says there is one but the image
does not work. I have been fortunate to go to England 10 times for
business and to research family history. My cousin, his granddaughter,
insisted that he never used the Hodgson name. Joseph's father was the
"second" Turner for his parents. The grandfather was Joseph Turner
Russell. My suspicion is that there were two Joseph's to preserve family
names. It is interesting to look at the 1871 census and all Joseph's
siblings have middle names except him.
I really appreciate this opportunity to correct my files. It is
interesting how many individuals appeared to have just copied my whole tree
without attribution or so much as a thank you. Well I can take pride that
I may have the superior product. I have mariner records to check today -
well you have given me my "home schooling" assignment for the day. The
biggest challenge, although I know how to do it, will be to change the
individual in Family Tree Maker without messing everything up. My "home
school teacher", my wife Christie of 55 years with 65,000 individuals in
her database is going to give me a gold star today.
I still wonder why the first Joseph had the middle name of Hodgson. I will
have to get a death certificate to improve my evidence.
