One of the recent Carlisle Journal extracts sent in by Petra mentioned a little girl who had been given a forged note to go and buy something. My 4th Gt Uncle - Edward Wilson Coulthard HODGSON born Gilcrux 1796 - was convicted for offering a forged note and was sentenced to death!! This was commuted to deportation and he ended up in Tasmania. On board the ship going there he had contracted pneumonia and - without me searching - Ancestry produced the day to day account of his illness as kept by the doctor on the ship. This is now kept in the Royal Navy records.Edward was eventually able to have his family join him in Tasmania and they all continued to make a life there. The Australian newspaper records etc.are found on trove.nla.gov.au which is an excellent website (national library of Australia) that may be useful to anyone looking for information there. Josephine
